Velocity Racing getting through to the UK Finals at Silverstone!
“Following months of preparations we finally had our opportunity to represent our school at the Scottish Finals of the F1 in Schools challenge last Friday (23rd) of February. Despite a very hectic lead up to the event we were exceptionally pleased with the standard of work we had managed to produce, including the quality of our portfolios and renders, delivery of our various presentations and the final build of our race car. As we arrive at the event we were excited and nervous to meet competing teams and have a look at the standard of work they had produced and the quality of the cars we would be racing against. It was really great to meet other members from other teams and discuss their journey to the finals, especially when we heard we were not alone in working down to the wire to get things completed.
However, the day was not without some up's and down's, including the high of nailing our verbal and engineering presentations to the low of a poorer car performance than we had been hoping for after we weighed in 10% over the minimum weight. However, all of our efforts proved to be worthwhile at the event awards ceremony where we were awarded with the title of 'Best Engineered Car' as well as qualifying to attend the UK finals of the challenge, which will be held at Silverstone on the 19th & 20th of March. It was an amazing feeling for all of our team members and we are exceptionally grateful to all the support we have received to get us to this point, especially our various business & industry partners including Inneo Solutions.
We now move to preparing for the UK finals in just over two and a half weeks’ time and raising the required funds to get us to the point where we can compete to qualify for a place at the 2018 World Finals. Thanks again for all of your support.”
